Ready to use the day it arrives. Lower the caged speaker into an existing pool, lake or harbour, connect it through a transformer box and play.

Lubell LL916C blue underwater speaker inside a black steel cage

Overview

The LL916 is an economical yet powerful piezoelectric underwater speaker, developed, patented and manufactured by Lubell Labs in Columbus, Ohio. It combines one of the widest frequency responses of any commercial underwater speaker with a high output level, at a reasonable price.

In the LL916C the speaker sits in a rugged steel cage that protects it from knocks against walls, decks and hulls. This makes it nearly immune to damage, and it is used in test tanks, swimming pools, rivers, lakes and the open sea. A single LL916 can fill a municipal pool, which is why it is the speaker of choice for synchronised swimming competitions.

The LL916C is also a well established tool in research. Scientists use it as a broadband sound source for experiments in underwater acoustics, such as sound propagation, acoustic inversion and underwater communications, at sea, in lakes and in test tanks.

The LL916C is connected to the amplifier through one of the Lubell transformer boxes, which isolate the speaker, match the impedance and shape the response for music and voice.

Good to know

Choose a transformer box to suit your amplifier: the AC202C for a single speaker on a small amplifier, the AC203E or AC211 to share an amplifier between an air speaker and the underwater speaker, or the AC102C for several speakers on one amplifier channel. See the transformer boxes.

Lower and lift the speaker with a rope attached to the cage, never by its cable. Keep the amplifier and transformer box in a dry place away from the pool edge.
